What about Decorative Fixtures?
Many decorative fixtures are notorious for creating a large amount of glare, a very poor distribution of light and lots of energy wasted. There are some newer decorative light fixtures available that give the daytime look of the glary fixtures but are offered with full cut-off optics to keep the light shining down. These full cut-off fixtures normally hide the source of the light up in the fixture and direct the light below the horizontal.

Hiding or shielding the source of the light abates glare. These full cut-off lights are great choices for new lights or as replacement lights are needed. Ask for full cut-off lights. Your request will drive the demand.

If you’re not ready to replace your current fixture or you can’t find the style you want in full cut-off, just replace the bulb with one using a much lower wattage. Your eyes will appreciate the reduced glare and you’ll use less electricity.

To augment the reduced light in your decorative fixtures, without producing glare, install recessed lights under the eves or in the porch ceiling with small (20 to 50 wattage) flood lights.
The "flicker" light bulbs in this decorative light keep it from producing blinding glare at night and it's beautiful in the day time.
